I often get asked from people what the value of working with an advisor is past year 1.
Year 1 is full of:
It is hard to keep up as there is so much to do.
But what about after year 1 when the main tactical changes get done. I saw this post from Carl Richards, one of my favorite personal finance writers, and I loved it so much as it really describes the true value.
What most don't realize is that year 1 for us is also all about getting to know our clients better than they even know themselves.
We study them.
What they like, what matters most to them, what their blind spots are, what the key risks are for them, where they are trying to go, how they best receive advice, and how we can best help you.
The goal... that we can look through the same lens as each client does for your financial life. That way we can be there for them, all the time, when you most need us, and help you make the most important decisions in their life.
And on top of that, we can help them avoid some huge mistakes that they otherwise would make without us by their side!
If you do not have an advisor or you hop around advisors all the time (or use a fidelity or vanguard trade desk where you talk to someone new every time), you will never get this type of relationship.
And you will never get the true, real value of a great financial planner!
My clients love having me with them to go through life. They never have to make a big decision alone. And they never have to wonder if the info they were told was right or wrong. They just ask me and get a response back that same day.
1 thing I know for sure is that our clients know how much we care about them and how badly we want them to succeed and have everything you have ever wanted.
We are their biggest cheerleader.
But we also will be the ones who will be open and honest with them and let them know when they are making the wrong decision and could blow things up in your life!
The value in having a great advisor throughout life is hard to quantify, but it is huge!
